Andrew Swenson Memorial Scholarship

Please join us in honoring Andrew (Drew) James Swenson, an Eagle who was taken too soon from us.  Friends and family have established the Andrew Swenson Memorial Scholarship to provide educational opportunities for like-minded students pursuing a degree in the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach Campus.

Andrew (Drew) James Swenson died on August 25, 2018 at the age of twenty-three as a result of injuries sustained in a single engine airplane crash immediately after takeoff in Swainsboro, Georgia while transporting skydivers.

Drew was an Aeronautical Science major in the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus.  He was an active member of the Student Veterans organization, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Jeep club and the Skydiving club.  He was a flight instructor with Embry-Riddle and received a posthumous Bachelor’s degree on August 29, 2018.  He was set to graduate in December.  Upon graduation Drew had been hired as a First Officer at PSA and was very much looking forward to the flow through with American.

Drew comes from a flying family, survived by his parents, United Airlines Captain Eric Swenson and Sandy Swenson, and his sister, Erica Swenson, who is also studying aviation in college.

We ask all members of our aviation, skydiving and union families to consider making a gift to honor the life of Drew and celebrate his lifelong love of flight.  Hitting or exceeding the goal of $25,000 will create an endowed scholarship that will provide scholarship money through earned interest for many years to come.
