The Ashley Guindon Memorial Scholarship

Ashley Guindon Portrait Our Why

This scholarship is in memory of Ashley Guindon, one of the first graduates of the ERAU Homeland Security program, killed in the line of duty on February 27, 2016, her first day on the job as a Police Officer serving Prince William County, VA.

The SSIA Department is acutely aware that many of the graduates of our program will enter into fields where they may be placed in harm's way. We will remember and honor Ashley, and the others who follow her into public or military service, for their dedication, bravery, and selfless sacrifice in the line of duty.

This scholarship will provide a means to contribute to the education of those students who, like Ashley, understand the risk and choose to serve our country by protecting our freedoms.

How this scholarship will help others

By having a scholarship established we will be able to help multiple students who are interested in attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and studying in the field of Homeland Security or Global Conflict Studies, but who may be struggling financially.

Who was Ashley?

Ashley had begun her career with the Prince William County, Va., Police Department as an intern with the Special Victims Unit. She graduated from the Police Academy in June of 2015. She then took a leave of absence, but returned to the Police Department and was sworn in February 26, 2016.

She graduated from Merrimack High School, Merrimack, N.H. in 2005. While in high school, she was in the Jr. ROTC. Ashley received a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Science from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL.

After graduation in 2011, she and her mom had a great bonding roadtrip, as they went from Florida to Virginia. It was the experience of a lifetime for both of them.

Her love of flying was apparent, as she got to fly a helicopter while in the Marine Corps Reserves, and was involved in other aeronautical endeavors. She also assisted with the Mortuary Affairs Office, while serving our country.

During her free time, Ashley loved to dance, read and travel. While in high school she was on the cheerleading team.

A total fashionista to her friends and family, Ashley also had a special fondness for her furry friend; “Scout,” the family Pug. Ashley’s mom Sharon said that Ashley would call her all the time to check in on Scout, who lived in New Hampshire with Sharon. She also adored birds, and most all of God’s creatures.

In addition, Ashley was always there for her community, volunteering with the Suicide Prevention Program, and helping at the soup kitchen on Thanksgiving, and other community activities where a helping hand was needed.
