Project Haiti - Help us provide clean water to children in Haiti!
Every year since the 2010 earthquake, ERAU's Project Haiti has partnered with different NGOs and local Haitians to design, build and install solar-powered water purifiers throughout Haiti, primarily at orphanages and schools. In addition to installing the water purifier, ERAU students prepare and teach WASH (water and sanitation hygiene) lessons to local children and adults. To ensure the purifier's sustainability, students also set up a micro-business to sell excess clean water funding both purifier maintenance and school/orphanage operation costs. May 7 - 13 we will travel to Haiti once again. This year's site is home to an orphanage housing 30 children and a school serving 200 students near downtown Gonaïves, Haiti's third largest city. The potential impact of this year's installation is tremendous. Unfortunately, due to the non-renewal of a grant, the project may have to be scaled back. We need funds to install a solar-power system capable of meeting the potential impact of this site.
Funds raised up to our fundraising target of $5,000 dollars will be used to purchase parts to increase the capacity of the solar-power system. Funds raised over the target will be used to purchase supplies for the micro-business (5 gallon water jugs, water bottle labels), support maintenance at past purifier sites, and help send more students on this year's installation trip.
